With great success and since many years AAG has been organising auctions of Indo-European Art. These ‘colonial’ paintings, watercolours and drawings are defined by the distinct and recognisable features of the landscape of the former ‘Dutch-Indies’. Amongst the subjects typically depicted are: the bringing of offerings at the temple, beautiful semi-nude Indonesian women, the cockfight, farmers on the paddy fields, and of course the beautiful views of a volcano at sunset.

Meanwhile many of these works have lost their appeal on the Dutch market; the connection with the old Indonesia is fading and these works with their typical colours often do not combine well with our contemporary Northern-European interiors.

In South-East Asia however there is a growing collector’s market for these works. And our auctions are instrumental in returning these works of art to their place of origin.

Names of some of these well-known painters are for example: Le Mayeur, Bonnet, Hofker, Dooijewaard, Sonnega, Adolfs, Israels, Ohl, Eland, Imandt and Beynon. These artists are usually a guarantee for a successful sale.

    If you would like a free valuation of your Indo-European art, please contact Talita Teves, T: +31 - 20 - 301 29 50.
